This month we spoke to Megan about her role as Admin Assistant here at The Accountancy Partnership!

Hey Megan! What is your job title?

Hi, I’m an Admin Assistant!

Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.

  • We inform/direct and help clients
  • We put new clients on the system and do company formations
  • We do credit control, payment checks and get authorisation from HMRC for clients
  • We register new clients for tax, such as for Self Assessment or VAT
  • Book in records for the accountant to work on

What is a typical working day like for you?

  • Checking emails and replying to emails in the 24 hours deadline
  • We put new registration forms on in the morning as they need to put on within 24 hours of the client signing up
  • Phones throughout the day
  • Checks and chases are normally done in the afternoon

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

I think it’s planning ahead with my workload as the office tends to be super busy, so you need to be able to respond to things which come up during the day!

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?

Sometimes clients can feel quite overwhelmed by all the different information needed, such as registration codes etc.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

Calmly talk them through everything, so they don’t feel so overwhelmed.

What is your favourite part of the job?

The team!

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

Apart from home time, I love everyday not being the same. You don’t know what to anticipate when you come to work so it doesn’t feel like you are doing the same old everyday!

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

  • Critical thinking
  • Time management is one of the most important
  • Problem-solving
  • The ability to multitask

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

The dance studio. ✨

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

After a massive injury in dance college, I was told that I would never be able to dance again. So, whilst I was healing, I decided to not let it get me down and went to study a law degree. I recently graduated with a 2.1 law degree and still dance in professional companies today!

How would your colleagues describe you?

Storming Norman, bossy, funny and apparently, I bring good vibes 😂

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

Eastenders.

Who do you admire, and why?

My nan, she is the most selfless and loving person. She would do anything for anyone. Even during COVID, she was terrified of working around COVID due to my Grandad being vulnerable. But she still wanted to go in and look after her patients. After retiring, she still misses them.
