Jermaine Gordon
Aaron Parkinson is an absolute gem of an accountant, and such a nice guy. He spent so much time reviewing my accounts with me over the phone, before they were agreed and finalised. I have nothing but praise and gratitude for the service I continue to receive. Highly recommended.
Graham Price
I am extremely impressed with Ben Salisbury and The Accountancy Partnership's service. As a first-time self-assessment client, I was very late submitting my records and felt stressed about the process. Ben's professionalism and approachability was fantastic, he patiently guided me through everything to ensure my accounts were filed on time.

Setting up a freelancer business
One of the most common reasons people start freelancing is for the flexibility which comes with being their own boss. You can choose what jobs to take on, and have the freedom to decide if you want to freelance as a side-hustle, or make it the main event. It’s not without it’s challenges though. One of the first decisions is whether to set up your freelance business as a sole trader or through a limited company.
Choosing which legal structure to use when you register has a big impact on the way you report income, pay tax, and even has consequences for any assets you own! We’ll explain the ins and outs of each option so you can make the best decision for your own unique circumstances. Once you’re ready, we’ll set everything up for you – included as part of our service.
What accounting services do freelancers need?
Every freelancer does things differently, so the type of support you want from an accountant might not be the same for everyone. That said, if you’re earning an income from freelancing then you’ll need to report this to HMRC and pay tax on it.
The way you do this depends on whether you run your business as a sole trader, a limited company, or something else. It’s why every accounting package we provide includes the relevant tax return for your business type as standard!
Transferring from another accountant?
Moving your freelancer accounts from one accountant to another is a straightforward process when you have the right support in place. We can do that for you! Our team will manage every step, from notifying your previous accountant, to making sure all your records are transferred.
We’ll liaise with your old provider directly to arrange professional clearance, and let HMRC know we’re now acting on your behalf. Everything will be set up ready for a fresh start with your new dedicated accountant.
Additional accounting services for freelancers
Not all freelancers will need every single accounting service we provide. Rather than bundling them together and charging you for support you don’t use, these are available separately for low monthly fees as and when you want them.
VAT Returns
Comprehensive support with VAT registration, MTD record-keeping, and compliant submissions.
Bookkeeping
Tailored bookkeeping support for freelancers, provided by your own dedicated bookkeeper.
Free Incorporation
Setting up a limited company? We'll register your new business for free as part of your accounting services.
MTD IT Updates
Quarterly MTD Income Tax updates prepared and sent by your dedicated accountant.

No, it’s not compulsory! We include free access to our online accounting software, Pandle Pro, but we’ll work with you on any accounts software you use.
All our accounting service packages include your tax return as standard. If you set up as a sole trader this means either your Self Assessment or MTD Income Tax submissions are included. If you operate as a limited company then the fee includes your annual accounts and Company Tax Return.
As often as you like! You’ll be able to contact your assigned accountant directly, whenever you need to. You’ll also be notified about any absences, and have the contact details for their buddy accountant if you need to speak to someone while they’re off.
Our team will guide you through every step of the process, so you know exactly what information to provide and when. Once registered, your accountant will contact you directly to introduce themselves, and invite you to a consultation call to get the ball rolling.
No, your employer won’t be automatically notified if you start freelancing. Just be aware that if you form a limited company then your details will be published to the online register by Companies House, so your employer might be able to identify your record if they search for it.
