This month we spoke to Benjamin Warren, Accounts Semi-Senior at The Accountancy Partnership!
My main job is to complete client accounts and tax returns, as well as assisting the team around me to complete theirs. We also have to make calls to HMRC, send references for clients and generally be available for their queries.
First thing I’ll spend some time catching up on any overnight emails. If I’ve any client calls booked, these will usually be in the morning so I’ll take those, then work through to lunch time on completing accounts. In the afternoon, I’ll often start off with any odd jobs I need to get done when I come back after my lunch, before again getting back to working on accounts through to home time.
Tax bills seem to be the main one.
Well we carry out regular tax efficiency reviews for clients to ensure they’re saving as much as possible on their tax bill. One of the most common questions is about taking money out of their business in the most tax efficient way, and we can help with that.
Getting to speak to clients- we work with so many different kinds of businesses and people that it never gets boring.
Feeling like the company sees us as people and not numbers, it makes all the difference to being happy coming to work.
I’ve come from a high-pressure background and I’ve found that the skills translate really well to accountancy- good task prioritisation and maintaining high quality work even when there’s a deadline looming have really helped me.
I like finding somewhere new to eat, ideally somewhere I can take the dog with me.
I have caught all 1025 Pokémon.
I asked the people sitting closest to me: One said that I have poor Star Wars opinions and another said I was helpful.
I watched the Frasier reboot, which made me want to rewatch the original, so now I’m rewatching Cheers first- I’m 8 seasons in.
