This month we spoke to Andrew Harper, Accounts Semi-Senior at The Accountancy Partnership!

Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.

Accounts, VAT returns, Self Assessments, and ongoing tax advice for clients.

What is a typical working day like for you?

In the morning I will look at my emails first and complete a set of accounts. Later I will have initial consultation calls with clients to introduce myself and discuss any initial queries they have.

The rest of the afternoon is usually spent checking my CRM and organising any outstanding tasks I may have, and potentially having more calls with clients.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?

I sometimes get quite specific tax queries from clients which require me to do a bit of research, so I can ensure I offer the best advice possible to them.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

I like to try and explain everything in a way anyone can understand, so I always email a written explanation to a client’s query as well as offering a call, in case they prefer to discuss it further.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Generally, just speaking with clients and establishing a point of contact they can rely on. I aim for them to come away from the call understanding the advice given to them. I always try to explain how the advice benefits them in a way they understand.

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

I like how we are allowed to work independently; some days require more focus than others and managing our own time allows me to spread out important tasks and complete them in a timeframe that also suits the client.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

Attention to detail and spotting things that may have been overlooked by clients.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

On the days Liverpool FC play at home it would have to be Anfield with my brother. Otherwise going for walks anywhere with my partner Hannah, and dog Millie.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Laidback and friendly. Unless you ask Chris, who would probably say annoying.

Who do you admire, and why?

My Mum and Dad, both for their achievements in their careers and for everything they do to support myself, my brother and sister.
