Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.

Completing annual accounts, bookkeeping, as well as tax and VAT returns. I also provide support with Pandle, whether this be via phone, or the live chat. I contact HMRC on behalf of clients, and try to assist clients with any other query they may have.

What is a typical working day like for you?

I feel like the only way I can know how to plan my day, is by starting with my emails, and seeing which urgent needs clients may have. I will likely spend most of the morning dealing with such issues, and then focus on the accounts, bookkeeping and returns in the afternoon.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

I often find that when you plan a day in the morning, it will turn out completely different than originally expected. The spontaneous changes of events like this are often challenging, but make the day more interesting.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?

Not only maintaining and ensuring the accuracy of records throughout their year, but knowing what to keep a record of. If clients are new to running a business, I imagine it would be very difficult to know what information will be important at the end of the year.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

You can know every minute detail about a topic, but if you can’t communicate it to others, who will benefit? I therefore work hard on improving my communication skills wherever I can. Problems suddenly appear less daunting when you understand them.

What is your favourite part of the job?

In terms of my day to day work, small details can be a huge pain. Finding the root of one of these issues, which tries its utmost to hide from me, will forever feel like an accomplishment.

I also enjoy being helpful too. Hearing from clients that I have aided them in solving some of their problems, and helped make a difficult part of their lives slightly less so is always great!

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

The hard work TAP has put into developing a friendly environment has clearly paid off. When you spend such a big part of your life with the same people, it makes a massive difference when they are supportive and so easy to get along with.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

As the word ‘Accountancy’ entails so much, there is a huge amount of communication between so many different people in such varied environments. I believe being effective in doing so is crucial to success in this job.

When there is always a deadline around the corner, organisation will forever be imperative also.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

If it’s a Saturday, Goodison Park. Any other day, I would have to say Park Gate. It always looks great as the sun is going down, and the fish and chips/ice cream is unmatched.

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

This would probably be getting a First in Accounting at university.

How would your colleagues describe you?

I’m not sure if I really want to know to be honest!

My manager was proud of himself for describing me as jovial, and I have always been told I’m quiet, but I’m not sure this is the case when I get to know everyone.

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

Don’t judge me, but I haven’t watched Game of Thrones yet, so I think that’s next on the list.

Who do you admire, and why?

Seamus Coleman. It probably helped growing up as an Evertonian, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised he is always doing great things for so many, and doesn’t expect any recognition or praise for doing so.
