This month we spoke to Gabrielle Kewin, Semi-Senior Accountant at The Accountancy Partnership!

What is your job title?

Semi-Senior Accountant.

Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.

Preparing accounts, tax and VAT returns and answering client queries.

What is a typical working day like for you?

I usually start with my emails and any scheduled calls, before moving on to accounts and any VAT returns.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

Long wait times for HMRC, both calls and for them to process post!

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?

Often with running and growing a business, the accounting and record-keeping can be put on the back burner, but it is important to keep on top of it. Keeping up to date throughout the year makes it a lot easier and smoother when it comes to the end of year!

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

Clear communication and understanding the client’s needs is always important. Ensuring I’m up to date on the new legislation and knowing where to find the answers they need!

What is your favourite part of the job?

The variety of clients and businesses we work with, and knowing you’re helping people and taking some stress away from their other duties.

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

The people are friendly and welcoming, and the smoothies aren’t bad either.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

Organisation and planning my time and day. Each day is unpredictable but having some structure in place makes it more manageable.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

I have a Labrador who needs lots of walking to burn off all her energy. Our favourite places are Arrowe Park, the Gun Run, and Eastham Woods.

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

Graduating with a 2:1 in Forensic Psychology, although once I pass my Level 4 AAT that will likely be my proudest achievement.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Probably that I’m quiet!

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

Currently reading Richard Osman’s ‘The Bullet That Missed’ and binge-watching Brooklyn 99 for the millionth time.

Who do you admire, and why?

Rihanna, because she’s Rihanna.

What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?!

What’s the best film series of all time? The Lord of the Rings.
