This month we spoke to Bobby, about his role as Accounts Semi-Senior at The Accountancy Partnership.

What is your job title?

I’m an Accounts Semi-Senior!

Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.

I balance a portfolio of clients, consisting of accounts, VAT, and tax returns, ensuring all deadlines are met as well as offering guidance and support along the way.

What is a typical working day like for you?

I start the day by answering any queries I have via email, moving onto working on accounts, Self Assessments, or VAT. No two days are the same! Each day varies depending on what I need to prioritise.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

I would say the challenges faced in this line of work are making sure that you meet deadlines efficiently, while meeting your clients’ expectations.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your customers?

When establishing a business, it can be easy for clients to focus on the day-to-day operation while forgetting the importance of record keeping and documenting. This can cause stress when deadlines do approach as clients have to go back and remember what they have done over a significant amount of time.

Keeping your records up to date daily can remove a lot of the stresses involved when deadlines do approach.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

I have now worked in accountancy for a few years whilst my studies are ongoing. I believe working in industry provides the best experience of how to deal with day-to-day issues, with my ongoing studies providing more of a base knowledge for me to build my experience on.

What is your favourite part of the job?

I enjoy working with a wide range of different industries, providing me with knowledge into each which I would never have had otherwise.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

I believe that communication is a key, you must be able to understand clients as well as being able to voice your own views. I believe that transparency between myself and the client is the best way to uphold a positive working relationship.

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

I’m proud of my progression from Junior to Semi-Senior here at The Accountancy Partnership.

How would your colleagues describe you?

(I don’t trust what they would say).

What are you reading / binge watching at the moment?

Lately I have been binging a Netflix series ‘Car Masters: Rust to Riches’. It kind of reminds me of watching ‘Pimp My Ride’ with my Dad when I was a child .
