Staff Spotlight - Liam Cullen, Bookkeeper

Staff Spotlight: Liam Cullen, Bookkeeping Senior

We talk to Liam about his role as a Bookkeeping Senior at The Accountancy Partnership.

Give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job.

I complete the bookkeeping for our clients who have signed up for the service – this includes entering transactions, reconciling bank accounts, and filing VAT returns. A lot of my job is training new bookkeepers too, and making sure they are settling in well.

I also provide support for TAP’s very own bookkeeping software, Pandle.

What is a typical working day like for you?

I always start the day off by responding to any emails/queries that have come in overnight. After that, I’ll spend the day completing bookkeeping and supporting the trainees, as well as keeping on top of queries through the day.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

The main challenge would be ensuring deadlines are met, as well as keeping the work to the highest standard. It would be easy to rush the work sometimes, but it’s important to make sure that everything is done correctly as well as on time.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?

It’s hard to look past COVID in recent years. I can only imagine how hard it is running a business without the added complications caused by the pandemic.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

My qualifications and experience can help provide a better understanding to our clients of what we are doing, and why it is necessary, as well as just completing the work.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Bookkeeping can be a strenuous task, so I enjoy being able to complete this for our clients. Taking that pressure away from them has a nice feeling.

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

I’d have to say the people here. The office has a great atmosphere, and everyone helps each other through each day. We all work hard, but there’s always something to laugh about.

There’s 5-a-side football every week too, which is good fun.

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

I’m very organised and work well under pressure, which helps with managing work and meeting deadlines.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

I’m a massive Everton fan, so it would definitely be Goodison Park (although the visits haven’t been as enjoyable lately)!

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

Graduating, however I will give a special mention to winning the local Sunday football league.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Easy going, sarcastic, and the one with all the desk decorations.

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

I am always binge-watching Friends, to the point I only need to listen, and I know what’s going on.

In terms of reading, I can’t get enough of the helpful Pandle guides!

Who do you admire, and why?

My parents – they have always been there for me and supported everything I’ve done.

As a football fan, I’ll go for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, they are both brilliant to watch.

What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?!

I’ll follow on from the above

Q. Who’s the greatest footballer of all time?

A. Messi edges it for me, I just think he’s more naturally gifted.
