We talk to Diane about her role as an Accountant here at The Accountancy Partnership.

Give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job.

Preparing accounts, tax returns, and helping clients with their queries.

What is a typical working day like for you?

Every day is different, but I always like to start by responding to emails and planning my to-do list for the day. I’ll have initial consultations in the morning and then have the afternoon free to work on accounts and tax returns, and for responding to any more emails that come in.

What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?

We work to a 24-hour response time for queries, and it can be challenging to make sure we keep to this during particularly busy times of the month, such as VAT deadline day.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?

Clients who are just starting out in the business world may not know very much about how to run a business and what is expected of them. That is where we can help!

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?

I’ve worked in accounts for over 5 years now, so I have a good knowledge base and practical experience, which I can use to help provide support and guidance to clients.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Our client base is so diverse so it’s very interesting seeing the ins and outs of so many different types of businesses. It’s also very rewarding to know you are making a difference for clients.

What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?

The office culture is great – it’s a nice place to come to work every day. Also, can’t complain about the catered lunches twice a week either!

What skills do you find most useful to do your job?

I would say time management. With deadlines, emails, and ongoing workload, it’s essential to be able to organise your day. It can be hard to stick to it sometimes when you really get into something and don’t want to put it down, but most of the time it’s best to stick with the plan.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

I appreciate a good view so you will often find me somewhere scenic watching the sunset.

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

Graduating from uni with a first-class degree in Accounting and Finance.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Quiet until you get to know me! Then you can’t shut me up. I would like to think they would also describe me as friendly and easy going.

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

Currently rewatching Futurama! Very exciting that they are bringing it back again.

Who do you admire, and why?

David Attenborough – he’s spent his life trying to educate us about the planet we live on. It’s more important than ever to know our place on this planet and what we can do to help look after it.

I also find his voice very soothing, and I’d love if he was my grandad. You’d never get bored of his stories!

What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?!

Q. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

A. Apparently, it’s 700 lbs!
