Hey Ian! Tell us about your business
Mostly it’s a financial planning business for private clients and small businesses. That means helping people understand their financial situation and identifying their objectives and any risks that might feasibly cause those objectives not to be met. My goal is essentially to help them sleep better at night.
I am also developing a semi-automated proposition designed to help people who want a little bit of assistance but don’t feel they need to appoint a financial adviser to look after them.
Finally, I also run two sub-businesses within the brand for photography and web design, all under the Aegis brand. So if you’re looking for artwork or a new website, I can also help you out with that!
What drove you to start your business?
I developed a nasty fungal brain infection which caused me to have limited mobility and increased fatigue, which meant that I was unable to take on a normal office job. As such, I looked at my interests and expertise and decided that I could turn those into a business.
What particular challenges did you have to overcome in setting up your business, and since then?
I am still in the early stages, so finding new sources of business for all three strands of my company is a challenge. This is made all the more difficult by the fact that I now have a four week-old son “helping” me stay focused!

Initially, I did a google search and found them that way, but I have stayed with them because they offer very good service at a very reasonable cost.
Have we helped you overcome any challenges, and if so, how?
I hate doing company tax returns, so it’s wonderful to be able to hand that off to someone else! It frees me up for more productive uses of my time.
What do you have planned for your business in future?
More growth, potentially taking on additional staff if the demand becomes too much for me to handle on my own.
