Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.
My role includes preparing VAT returns, annual accounts and Self Assessments, as well as completing bookkeeping. I also support clients with technical support and periodic reviews of clients’ own bookkeeping with our bookkeeping software – Pandle.
What is a typical working day like for you?
I look through my emails first thing in the morning, before planning out my day and getting a coffee. My plans will often change each day depending on the work I need to complete and deadlines associated.
What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?
The nature of what our clients do for business is very varied, so I’m sometimes asked questions I haven’t encountered before. I’m lucky to have colleagues who have equally varied experience, who are always happy to help.
What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?
For clients, particularly those in their first year of trading, it can be overwhelming keeping track of everything and understanding the figures in their year-end accounts. I am always happy to help with any questions they may have.
How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?
I believe communication, and finding the best way to explain concepts based on the client, is really important to making someone feel comfortable and helps them understand their accounts better.
What is your favourite part of the job?
I love being able to plan my day and getting stuck into work. I also like how no two days are the same and how I can apply everything I’ve learned to different situations, particularly when preparing accounts.
What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?
The people – everyone is so friendly. The training is brilliant! Being one to one, I always know I have one person I can go to and ask any questions I need.
What skills do you find most useful to do your job?
I think organisation is key to staying on top of all my work and meeting deadlines. Being very curious and meticulous is also a plus, as you can be asked very specific questions and need to find as much information as possible.
Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?
I love to meet up with my friends and family for dinner at a cute café or restaurant for a catch up, as well as taking my dogs for a run in the countryside.
Tell us about your proudest achievement.
My proudest achievement would be achieving a first-class degree in Accounting and Finance.
How would your colleagues describe you?
I have been described as cheerful, positive, and a great friend to have.
What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?
I’m currently watching Modern Family again – this is my go-to show when I want a little background noise.
Who do you admire, and why?
My parents – they are the most supportive people I’ve ever met and are the first people I go to when I have any minor problem or decision to make.
What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?!
Do you want to get a sweet treat? I will absolutely never say no!
