This month we spoke to Simon Murphy, Accounts Semi-Senior at The Accountancy Partnership!
Give an overview of the duties, functions and responsibilities of your job.
Completing accounts/tax returns/VAT returns for sole traders and limited companies. Dealing with client queries over the phone or via email.
What is a typical working day like for you?
I usually start the morning by responding to urgent emails, and then completing a set of accounts. My afternoons usually involve taking an initial call with a client, responding to my remaining emails, and preparing another set of accounts if I have time.
What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?
Starting a new business/company with no knowledge of what that entails.
How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?
Using the knowledge and skills developed through studying and training, along with support from my mentor and colleagues, to ensure that clients’ issues are dealt with to their satisfaction.
What is your favourite part of the job?
The variety of the clients I deal with. I deal with clients from various different industries, which bring their own unique situations to deal with.
What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?
Probably the people. Everyone here is so friendly, which leads to a positive working atmosphere.
What skills do you find most useful to do your job?
Time management, in managing turnaround times for the completion of accounts, and adhering to the 24-hour turnaround time in responding to emails.
Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?
The pub.

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?
I have just finished Better Call Saul, which makes me want to start watching Breaking Bad again.
