Sam Talbot tells us more about his role as a Sales Executive here at The Accountancy Partnership.
Give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job.
I provide clients an overview of our services, so that they can make an informed decision about whether we are the right accountancy firm for them.
What is a typical working day like for you?
I always start with a coffee. Then I will go through our new calls, before working my way through the rest of the workflow for the day. Answering emails, taking, and making calls mostly.
What particular challenges do you regularly encounter?
A lot of potential clients ask about IR35, and what it means for them. So, getting my head round it first of all, and then explaining it in a way that is clear and lays out the options available for them.
What are some of the biggest challenges faced by your clients?
How are you able to use your skills to solve problems for them?
I’m not sure if I have any skills as such! Reading up around complex topics using our articles is a good place to start. They give a good overview and give us enough information to be able to explain this to our potential clients.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Speaking to passionate people about their businesses is interesting. It’s also nice when I speak to someone who I can answer questions for, and then off the back of this they then sign up for our services.
What do you like most about working for The Accountancy Partnership?
We have a really friendly team who don’t take themselves too seriously, so we can have a laugh and a joke whilst working, which makes it really enjoyable.
What skills do you find most useful to do your job?
Again, not sure if I have any! I guess being able to read, understand and then explain something to potential clients is handy. I only need to read something once and I feel like it goes in.
Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?
Portman Road. That’s Ipswich’s stadium for anyone that doesn’t know. I recently took my daughter to her first game, and she loved it. Recently the football on display has been depressing but things are on the up now, so that’s good to see after years of decline. (This will jinx the rest of the season now!)
Tell us about your proudest achievement.
My daughter of course.
How would your colleagues describe you?
I’m not sure I can write those down!
What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?
I’ve just finished watching Peaky Blinders. Series 6 has just started so I’m waiting patiently for those episodes. I’m also currently reading a book by Ed Winters about the meat industry and their practices. It’s not a particularly light read mind you, not a good one to read before bed!
Who do you admire, and why?
My partner. She is balancing doing her Masters, barrister training, working full time, and still finds the time to be a great parent to our daughter. Also, whoever invented Hummus deserves a mention.
What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?
Who is the greatest British sports person of all time? Sir Lewis Hamilton.
