We talk to Linh Tran about her role as an Accounts Junior at The Accountancy Partnership.

Give an overview of the duties, functions, and responsibilities of your job.

I usually check my emails first thing when I come in, answer/send emails internally, and reply to clients. Next I’ll start work to prepare dormant accounts, sole trader accounts and Self Assessments, non-trading accounts, and Corporation Tax.

How are you able to use your skills to solve problems?

Using my accounting knowledge and knowing where to search for additional information, then most of the time I can figure out answers myself. If I cannot solve problems, I ask for advice from my mentor and my colleagues.

Where’s your favourite place to visit on days off?

Garden centres, museums, and historical sites.

Tell us about your proudest achievement.

In 2018, right after my second child was born, in the middle of dealing with my immigration status, I passed the GCSE Maths and English exams marking the start of my career route. These achievements mean a lot to me as English is my second language. Only then did I feel like I can do more and I have got the foundation to build up my future.

How would your colleagues describe you?

I have not asked them!

What are you reading/binge watching at the moment?

I have just finished 8 Harry Porter films with my older sons recently. Then after the kids go to bed, I occasionally watch The Real CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) on BBC with my husband.

Who do you admire, and why?

I do not admire anyone particularly. There is no one that is always perfect. I am more likely to be inspired by the good thoughts and actions happening every day.

What question would you really like to answer, and what’s the answer?!

What is the difference between school and life?

The answer is: Schools give us lessons and then give us tests. Life tests us first, then we will learn the lessons.
