A quarterly survey conducted by RSM Tenon reveals that more than a quarter of UK business owners believe that the coalition government has impacted negatively on their business. Worryingly, 11 percent say that the government has affected their business in a ‘very negative’ way.
These survey results were released as the Conservative Party conference took place in Manchester, with the chancellor committing to helping small business. However, almost a third of business owners in the United Kingdom thought that the coalition government had had a positive impact on their business. Most of these businesses, 29 percent were situated in the South of England. Almost half of UK businesses didn’t think that the government had any influence on their business, with half of those businesses being in the North of England.
George Osborne has stated that he believes that small businesses can boost economy growth and create jobs. According to the chief executive of RSM Tenon, Andy Raynor, the chancellor needs to use this opportunity to introduce tax breaks and other incentives to encourage business growth in the private sector. He said:
“The chancellor has said that he will commit to helping business so, with just over half of all UK entrepreneurs saying that they didn’t think the coalition government had made any effect on their business, there is still a great deal of work to be done.”
The chancellor made huge commitments to small business during the Conservative party conference, which will support UK businesses during these difficult times.
