Doug Richard, one of the panellists from Dragons’ Den is to team up with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to launch the Web Fuelled Business. The programme will offer support to Small and Medium Enterprise in the use of the Web to expand their business. Around 3,500 SMEs from all over the UK will benefit from the knowledge.

The enterprise is aimed at teaching businesses how to utilise the Web, not only for increasing sales but increasing marketing levels with the use of social media and search engine optimisation. Using the Web effectively can increase productivity and potential for growth, creating jobs as a result. The pilot for the programme will run for three months initially, and commence in January 2012. The initiative will offer boot camp style training and web broadcasts. Following the training, full support will be provided to help businesses to incorporate the skills gained into the business.

Mark Prisk, the Minister for Business and Enterprise said:

“Most new jobs come from small businesses that are growing. The goal of this pilot programme is to train small businesses in leveraging the Internet, and in doing so boost the productivity and growth of those firms which have the most potential to create new jobs, wealth and innovation in the UK.”

According to Doug Richard, the creator of School for Startups, utilising the benefits of the internet is crucial for small businesses. The programme aims to help businesses achieve their full potential through the Internet.
