The New Year message from the Forum of Private Business calls for less red tape and greater support for UK Small and Medium Enterprise. The lobby group for small businesses in the UK spent most of 2011 calling for greater measures to be introduced, to support the reduction of the burden of red tape, which restricts SMEs. In addition the business group called for more support for UK small businesses which wanted to expand their business.

The year ahead appears to offer more of the same problems, with late payments and credit still needing to be dealt with by the government, according to Phil Orford chief executive of FPB. Orford believes that 2012 will be another year which is difficult for small businesses, but also believes that UK entrepreneurs will strive to demonstrate creativity and strength in the difficult economic conditions. He said:

“The continuing scarcity of affordable credit, rising late payments, mounting business costs and turmoil in the Eurozone, in addition to the perennial problems of tax and red tape, are sapping both cash flow and confidence.”

Orford also believes that policies for enterprise are required to help them grow and create jobs. The Prime Minister stated in his New Year message that he understood the difficulties faced by workers, going on to say that he would improve the economy. The Labour party want the coalition government to demonstrate flexibility, as the spending cuts and problems in the Eurozone are damaging the economy.
