There’s a common perception that those who fare well in the business world are the outgoing, confident type, smooth at networking events. While those traits can be very useful, they’re not the reasons behind the successes of many introverted entrepreneurs.
Some of the most famous entrepreneurs in the world are introverts, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Mark Zuckerberg being prime examples.
There’s a tendency to think of introversion as simply the absence of extroverted qualities. However, introverts have plenty of their own qualities that can help them achieve business success.
Introverts have a tendency towards reflection and research which usually means that they’re good at preparation. They like to prepare thoroughly before making changes, creating presentations and holding meeting with clients or employees.
Introverts are less likely to be impulsive and will usually think each decision through carefully and consider the impacts before committing to anything.
Extroverts are more likely to take risks. Sometimes that can pay off and introverts can end up delaying too long but being cautious is less likely to lead to drastic mistakes.
Being a good talker is great for those smooth sales pitches but the most important part of business is filling a need for your customers. Therefore, being able to listen is crucial.
If you’re not listening to your customers, employees, business partners or investors you’re missing out on information you need to build your business on. Introverts are often more open to suggestions from employees or partners and can be easier to work with as a result.
Introverts might not be great at networking with vast amounts of people all the time but when they do connect, they tend to prefer to cultivate deeper relationships with a few people.
Focusing on a couple of people who you might be able to form important business connections with might be a better than having tons of acquaintances you can’t fully remember.
Introverts tend to perform better working independently but also work well in a team because of their more collaborative nature. Extroverts on the other hand often struggle while working independently because they usually work best in the presence of others, bouncing ideas between each other.
Being able to work alone is useful for a business leader as they’re the ones running the place alone. They need to be able to rely on their own decisions and judgement but also be able to ask for help when necessary.
What other qualities do you think introverts have? Do you think they make better entrepreneurs than extroverts? Tell us what you think in the comments.
