This month, our Staff Spotlight shines on one of our senior accountants, Erin Blythe. Erin explains her role at The Accountancy Partnership as well as what she likes to get up to in her free time!
I have my own portfolio of clients which I prepare accounts and various tax returns for. They include limited companies, LLP’s, sole traders, partnerships, and individuals across a wide range of sectors.
I spend the first hour of my day responding to my emails and answering any client queries, followed by any initial calls with new clients.
A group of us will usually pop out for a walk at lunch time. The TAP office is situated on the Birkenhead docks so it’s a lovely scenic walk by the river, especially when its sunny. In the afternoon I move onto preparing accounts and/or tax returns on my list, prioritising any deadline work.
The constant change in accounting and tax legislation! Especially at the moment. There are a lot of changes and new legislation that we are facing as accountants, such as IR35, Brexit, and various Covid-19 schemes.
I have to make sure that I keep myself up to date with any changes and updates to rules, to ensure that I can correctly advise my clients.
At the moment a lot of clients are still trying to recover their businesses from the ongoing struggles of Covid-19. It had, and is still having, such a negative effect on so many businesses. It’s incredibly hard seeing my clients going through difficult times, but I constantly try to reassure them that I am always here for them, and will help in any way that I can.
I am AAT and ACCA qualified, therefore my knowledge from my training is always used on a daily basis in order to service and advise my clients.
I enjoy working with such a diverse client base, it always keeps me on my toes and constantly learning new things. Also, being online accountants, our clients really can be based anywhere in the world, which is always interesting.
The office culture and people. Everyone at TAP is really friendly and it’s a happy environment to come into every day. TAP provide us with free lunches and healthy smoothies twice a week as well, perfect for the wedding diet!
Having a large portfolio of clients, my organisation skills come in very handy on a daily basis. It is important to have good time management and organisational skills to ensure that I don’t miss any deadlines.
I’m quite outdoorsy so anything which involves being outside. My fiancé and I have recently bought a tandem kayak, so I love going out on the local canals and rivers. I also enjoy horse riding, going on walks with my dogs, and catching up with friends and family.
My proudest achievement was when I qualified for ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) in January 2020. This took lots of hard work and determination, and is a reminder to myself that I can do anything that I put my mind to.
I think my colleagues would describe me as being fairly quiet when you first meet me, and then when you get to know me, I’m just a weirdo really! But I think they would also say I’m friendly, happy, and easy going.
Clarkson’s Farm which is absolutely hilarious, would definitely recommend a watch. Other than that, I’m one of those really annoying people who loves to rewatch things so anything Harry Potter, Disney, or Game of Thrones are my go-to comfort shows.
My fiancé, Sam. He is incredibly hard working and ambitious. As a farmer he works long and hard hours and always has a smile on his face, even after a difficult day. He has always been super supportive of me, especially whilst I was studying for my ACCA with all the stress and doubting myself. He always builds me up to believe in myself, he’s the reason I am where I am today.
Is it acceptable to put tuna on pizza…? Absolutely yes – I definitely recommend a cheese and tuna pizza, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!
